10/2/25 : Going back to our roots - cheers Judy!

Having spotted a Facebook enquiry asking about the Mal de Mer Club, the Organizator got in touch with Judy Willis regarding some engraved silver tankards. These originally belonged to her father-in-law and she was keen to return them to the Club. Our Treasurer Shaun takes up the story:

“I had a bit of fun today in Plymouth, meeting up with the daughter-in-law of one of our founding members, Geoffrey Willis. Judy kindly donated three of Geoffrey’s Mals tankards dated 1936, 1953 & 1954. The family have held on to his 1949 presidential tankard. Geoffrey was a solicitor in Redruth and knew Jimmy Goold through hockey and was on the first trip in 1932.”

Judy had this to say:

“Shaun, thank you for coming to Plymouth to pick up the tankards. I did enjoy meeting you and having a blow on the Hoe! I will be telling my family about the Mal de Mers in more detail when I see them, it’s kind of you to extend an invitation to them. The lady who took the photo did really well, capturing our obvious enjoyment in that iconic view. Thank you for forwarding it, I’ll post it on the family WhatsApp.”

It’s great to have this link with one of our founding Mals, and many thanks to Judy for seeking us out. Our statistician Jamie has provided Geoffrey’s details below.
